Effects Of Cigarette Smoking Among Adult Smokers - 1264 Words

Abstract The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services developed a survey for the assessment of cigarette smoking among adult smokers. The assessment showed that there has been a significant decrease/decline in cigarette smoking amongst adults in the year of 2003. The survey proved that fewer adults are smoking in Los Angeles County than if the rate of smoking had remained the same as in previous years. This paper evaluates the findings in the assessment conducted by Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. The information obtained from the assessment will aid in providing an outline for planning interventions for community health in Duval County, Jacksonville, FL. Second – hand smoke can cause lung cancer and cardiovascular disease in non-smoking adults. Children are not exempt from the harmful use of tobacco. When exposed to environmental tobac co smoke, children can be at risk for bronchitis, asthma, and pneumonia. Everyone can be affected by the use of tobacco. Many assessments have been conducted across the country to evaluate the use of tobacco in hopes to decrease the use of tobacco and lower the rates of illness and deaths amongst those that decide to use tobacco products. Smoking and Tobacco Use among Adults in Los Angeles County The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services presents information in a survey that estimates of the prevalence of cigarette smoking in the Los Angeles County adult population over the age of 18. Many statistics were obtained and revealed during this assessment. The information from this assessment was obtained by using the survey method. The 2003 survey showed a decline in cigarette smoking amongst adults. According to the results Los Angeles County Health Survey, 15.6% of adults 18 years and older (or an estimated 1,066,000 adults) currently smoke cigarettes, a significant decrease from the 18% of adults who reported smoking in 1997 and 1999 (L.A.
